Brown County Redux

October 2010
Brown County State Park, Indiana

Once September rolls around, we get busy with school and the kids activities.  By October, we are always ready for a weekend trip.  Brown County State Park in Indiana was a natural choice due to its proximity to our home and for the dazzling fall colors.  In addition, this was my opportunity to hit the mountain biking trails.  We camped with our neighbors Phil and Kim and their two daughters.  They are tent campers and great travel companions.  It is always nice time camp with friends so that you at least are guaranteed to like one of your camping neighbors.

Phil and I hit the mountain biking trails on Saturday.  For the first time, I finally saw the need to perhaps invest in a mountain bike with full suspension.  The ground was dry and after a couple hours of mountain biking, I felt like I had operated a jackhammer all day.  Brown County lives up to its billing as one of the top mountain biking destinations in the Midwest.  It is also one of the best campgrounds within a couple hours of our home.  I hate to criticize my native state, but Ohio does not boast too many desirable campgrounds.

We had a lot a laughs around the campfire and brought our puppy Maggie on her first camping trip.  She is a wonderful addition to our family and loves the coziness of the Airstream.  The kids enjoyed a carefree weekend of exploring the forest around us and attending the owl demonstration.  Jack knew every bird they brought out.  Grandpa would be proud.

The speaker seems to morphing into an owl.
